CELEBRATIONS AND CULTURAL PRATICES

Welcome to the heart of popular celebrations and traditions

The traditional and official Bulgarian celebrations calendar is the richest of Europe. Some feasts go back to the Thracian, proto- Bulgarian, the Slavic period and then they were mixed and assimilated to the Orthodox religion.

Some popular celebrations and traditions are preserved and continue to be practiced individually or in community for example through the chitalishté (Bulgarian cultural center). These traditions may change from one region to another.
