Advantages of short-term volunteering:
- Opportunity to try and find out if volunteering is right for you. Short-term projects are between 2 weeks to 2 months, and this gives you the opportunity to participate even during your summer vacation. Even if you have a family, a job or other tasks, you do not have to interrupt your engagements for a long time.
- If you are worried about traveling alone or are afraid of big changes (new culture, people and language), then this is a good chance for you without feeling too overwhelmed. You don’t have any skills, means, abilities … or foreign languages. Everything is fine! ESC program give a preference to people who have no experience or cannot receive any other funding for international mobility. And participating in a group project can connect you with other people in your country to help you with your language.
- You get the opportunity to acquire new skills, both for your professional development and personally. You learn to cope in a new environment, to find information, to travel. You work together with other people, ie. in a team. You share your culture, cuisine, hobbies. You teach someone else the things you know. You learn to learn. You participate in a cultural program or learn dances from the new culture. You learn to manage your time, money and priorities.
- And you are never bored! There are at least 9 other people in the group with whom you can plan your free time and travel safely.
Let us introduce you to an opportunity for a Short-term project taking place in a small town in Bulgaria: Veliki Preslav.
A little history: Veliki Preslav was the capital of the First Bulgarian State in the period from 893 to 972. The Preslav ruins are located about 3 km southwest of the current Preslav and are a national archeological reserve.
We called our program “Not just history“, and you will see for yourself that here we are talking about so many things, and so many layers. The short-term volunteer is a two-way street: you help local people, but you also gain new skills and life experience. As a volunteer in the town of Veliki Preslav you can get involved in several areas:
- Assistance with archeological excavations and / or at the Archaeological Museum;
- To participate in the summer academy for children and youth;
- To help promote the city and attract more tourists;
- Participate in the “Growing Together” program, in which older people are trained to work with phones and computers;
- To develop your own personal project related to our mission and our work in the city.
