From Theory to Practice: Internship Programs in the NGO Sector for UNWE Students

On November 7, a meeting was held between students from the University of National and World Economy (UNWE) and representatives of several NGOs in Bulgaria – “Maria’s World”, Health and Social Development Foundation (HESED) and Open Space Foundation (OSF). The event was dedicated to the presentation of internship programs and opportunities for professional development in the NGO sector.
The initiative was organized with the aim of introducing young economists and international relations specialists to the activities of NGOs and inspiring them to get involved in solving socially significant problems. NGO representatives shared their personal stories and their motivation to work in the field of social services, human rights and sustainable development.
“Young people need to connect with a cause and work with people who need support,” said Pepa Peneva from OSF. She emphasized that internships in NGOs are a great opportunity for students to put their knowledge into practice and develop teamwork, communication and leadership skills. Assoc.
Prof. Ioneva from the Department of International Relations of the UNWE welcomed the initiative and thanked the NGO representatives for the partnership. She emphasized that cooperation between the university and NGOs is of utmost importance for the preparation of highly qualified specialists who can respond to the contemporary challenges facing society.
“We have been working together with the UNWE for several years now and we are extremely satisfied with the results. Interns are motivated and ambitious young people who contribute significantly to the work of our organizations,” shared Pepa Peneva.
The meeting ended with a lively discussion, during which the students asked many questions about the causes and how we select them. The organizers hope that this event will encourage more young people to get involved in the activities of NGOs and contribute to building a better society.
